Advice about splitting nails?

My fingernails are really soft. They get to a certain length and then start to peel and split. I used to bite my nails alot when i was younger, could this be a contributing factor? How can i harden them up? Any secrets?Advice about splitting nails?
you can buy some garlic (yes garlic) pills and drink 'em. Also vitamin D. If your not into pills. Just peel a garlic smash it up and rub it. And you can also put your fingernails in olive oil for a while. Every two days you should apply any kind of strengthening nail polish. One layer on top of the other, then once a week take it all off with non-acetone moisturizing nail polish remover and start the same process all over again. Do this for a month! and it will work! :DAdvice about splitting nails?
Calcium I believe helps. Drink plenty milk.
Go to a pharmacy and get yourself some Biotin. It's supposed to help strengthen your nails. Also, wear rubber gloves when you have to wash dishes or anything else that requires you have your hands in water. The water softens them even more and they will tear easily. Last, but not least and certainly not the most comfortable, and possibly annoying to others, tap your fingernails on a solid surface for a few minutes a day. It will feel strange at first, but it gets the circulation going in your fingers and makes your nails harder.
