Why do my nails keep splitting and flaking?

I've always had quite strong nails and this only started about a month or two ago.Why do my nails keep splitting and flaking?
Also try potassium...it works for both hair and nail health. Why do my nails keep splitting and flaking?
Sounds like you may have had a spell of a few months (some months back) where you ate poorly or had something undesirable in your system.

I always tell my pals to make sure they're at least getting a multi-vitamin and I boost with a biotin supplement.
Vitamins definitly mate. The little white flecks in your nails doesn't indicate a calcium deficiancy though
you need more calcium
i'm a guy

but my nails crack

when i'm dehydrated

drink lots of water!

(i'm serious -- it helps)

You could be lacking in Vit B, or potassium, or even calcium (though i don't think calcium's the culprit - the symptoms would be different).. The best thing to do is to eat more bananas.. Over time, your nails will very soon reach their original healthy state. Plus, avoid soaking your hands in water all the time, and avoid harsh chemicals too; they bring about peeling and ';flaking'; of the edges of the nails.

Do remember though, when you eat a lot of bananas, do exercise or just be more active to burn off the energy or you'd put on a bit of weight 'cus bananas are excellent sources of energy and healthy calories...
U need to check your diet and stress levels both of which affect the state of your nails

Also are you exposing your nails to water too much

You can solve this problem by soaking your nails in olive oil once a week
lack of some mineral in your body.

try drinking more milk or taking calcium pills..

these things come with age. lol!
Dont know but I do know how to improve them unbelievably. OPI range of products sell something called Nail Envy. It's a clear varnish you can put under and over your coloured nail polish. Available from QVC if you cant find something locally, look on their web site. Had the same problem during summer last year and have used this constantly since, on advice from a nail technician friend. What a difference! My nails are long strong and healthy. Takes a couple of months to see any difference but well worth the effort. Just use it as your normal nail polish then. Try it - I'm sure you will be impressed too, given a few weeks.
