Advice required re nails prone to splitting ?

I have always had long nails and in June I felt they were getting too long so I cut them down with nail clippers. Ever since then my nails (particularly on my right hand) keep splitting and the splits tend to appear again despite my filing them down.

Can anyone recommend anything to prevent these splits?! It's getting on my nerves now as I am so used to having long nails.

Firstly, clipping your nails shouldn't usually cause this as its a clean cut so it might be that you need new clippers if yours are getting blunt.

Secondly, when you file your nails you actually tear the nail up a little if you do it all the way across, you should file your nail from the left to the centre and then the right to the centre. Or you could invest in a good glass nail file, its fine enough to be able to file and shape without worrying about direction. They're also extremely long lasting and sanitisable (never use it if you do damage it)

Lastly, make sure you are wearing rubber gloves for washing up etc and use cuticle oil on your cuticles and nail surface at least twice a day. Water causes the nail to swell slightly with can cause microscopic splits, cuticle oil waterproofs your nails slightly and the massaging in of the oil encourages blood flow to the matrix with promotes healthy strong growth.

Start following these tips and your own lovely nails should be back to their former glory in no timeAdvice required re nails prone to splitting ?
Hope you find the answer.wearing false nails tends to weaken original ones and if you hands are always in water that does not help i have tried for years but i have the same problem, but with my work it does not help
