What causes my nails to split and break?

idk but ifd you go to walgreens you can find some GREAT nailpolish that really helps your nails stay strong.

Your nails tell a lot - and you could be lacking some vitamins in your diet so be sure to take a supplement -

and soak your hands in a nice soapy water and apply a pure vitamin e to the nail and hands (massage it) try filing them to a size you like and apply a top coat of Sally Hanson strong nails - there are a few to choose from.

Also be sure to drink more water - and make a mental note of hitting all the food groups every day -

and if you can a manicure helps - :)
Two factors.

One is aging, so stop getting older right away. Nails tend to split into layers, form ridges, and do other nasty stuff when you get past 40 or 50.

The other is exposure to drying chemicals. Whether it's cleaning products, manicure products, or artificial nails, once the nail gets a certain level of dry, it's vulnerable to any force that could split, crack, or break it.

Clip 'em as short as you can stand, remove all polish, and start using rubber gloves for all household chores involving liquids. Keep lotion near the sinks you use most, and apply it, rubbing it into the nails, every time you wash your hands. By the time the nail that's at the base now grows off the fingertip, it should be in substantially better shape.
