You can trim the nail as best as you can to avoid it snagging it on anything like carpet or furniture. You can use liquid band aid to seal the nail and prevent dirt from entering the sensitive area inside the nail. If the nail is bleeding you can pack it with a little corn starch till it stops and then use the liquid band aid. My cats do this every once and a while and its of so long as the nail does not rebreak or the paw becomes swollen as this can be a sign of infection. Just keep it clean and dry and maybe keep your friend inside till it heals upWhat happens when your cat has a split end nail?
You can trim it but be careful not to cut too far or it will bleed. If your cat has clear nails then look for pink on the underside of the nail and don't cut that far. If not it is kinda hard to tell. Nails naturally shed and sometimes can splinter like that. My cat usually pulls it off by bitting. All else you can visit your vet and have the nails trimmed.
You do know that they shed the outer coating of their nails, right? Just making sure. Maybe it was about to come off. I find them all over the place %26amp; they look all cracked and messed up. Just a thought. Does he seem like he is in pain?
as long as it is not bleeding or bothering the cat, leave it. he will scratch something( scratching post, hopefully) and it break off. they grow new ones constantly. you probably see the new nail pushing the old one out.
You might want to take your cat to the vet, so that the vet can help you take off the nail. Don't take the nail off yourself, or you might hurt your cat. Good Luck! ( :
You need to try to cut it off.
