Why do my nail always split ?

ive been growing my nail's for some time now but every time they get long they start splitting. what can i do to stop this happening. Why do my nail always split ?
Avon has a product called Strong Results. It runs about 3.99 a bottle but the stuff is awesome. I was a slave to acrylic nails for years. Then I started to notice women with class and style were ditching the acrylics and going for the shorter buffed clean nail. I soaked off my acrylics and noticed my natural nail was weak and flimsy. I started using Strong Results and now I have to file my natural nail down every two weeks because they grow so fast and strong. You may also want to start a multi vitamin supplement, since weak nails are usually a sign of some vitamin deficiency, and use hand lotions that specifically say for stronger nails. You will be just fine after that.

Good luck. Why do my nail always split ?
Splitting in the nails is caused from a lack of protein and the mineral silica can lead to nails splitting and flaking.

Eat: Cucumbers, brown rice, root vegetables, nuts and eggs.

Treat: Get a nail strenghtener that toughens up weak nails.

Be careful with the products you put on your hands such as soap and lotions. Avoid products with alcohol or other drying agents because that tends to dry and weaken nails, making them brittle and prone to cracking.

When using a nail file or nail buffer on your nails make sure not to use the back and forth motion because that generates excessive heat on your nail which will weaken it. Instead go from the side to the middle along the ridge line of the nails.

Hope this helps :)

Onychoschizia or splitting of the fingernails is one of the most common problems that the dermatologist sees. The term onychoschizia includes splitting, frail, soft or thin nails and nails with ridges. Onychoschizia is more common in women.

Treatment

# The best treatment is to avoid repeated wetting and drying of the nails. Try to wear cotton lined rubber gloves when performing household chores that involve getting the hands wet.

# Rub lotions containing alpha-hydroxy acids such as Neostrata or lanolin containing lotions such as Elon into the nails both before and after getting the hands wet.

but you should really google it, there are some good websites out there that explain your 'condition'
Do you mean the ends?

Like, when they're growing you can break them easily or you can see the ';layers';?

This is happening to me. Try getting more Vitamin E. Another thing taht worked for me was nail growing polish. They sell it almost everywhere you can buy nail polish. It has Vitamin E in it and also hepls them grow faster,.

Hope I helped (:
it could be a lot of things,

1. if you used to bite them they are truly weakened, now everytime they grow you have to cut them back, do this for a couple of months and they shall regain strength, dont let them get to the length where they break this will weaken them further

2. If you file your nails, that can make them split, just shape them when you clip them.

3. you dont have vitamin E or calcium in your diet. Take supplemnts or eat more stuff like milk.
Actually this is due to a lack of vitamins.

This has happened to me. The key is to eat Jello.

It is super random, but gelatin is made from animal bones and helps you gain strong bones and nails!
Do you paint them at all?

I used to paint my nails alot and noticed that they'd split all the time.

I stopped and now only file and do my cuticles and they growing really healthy.
do you file your nails? cuz that could be a reason why. if you file in a back and forth pattern instead of in one direction, that could cause the splitting
Probabaly your diet, eat more vitamins
Try on before applying any nail polish a base coat.
take some vitamin E, eat more

fruit and vegetables
try one of the nail strengtheners on the market
