My son has his little toe's toe nail split right from the top of the nail to the bottom.?

It seems crushed on the outer part which has split off from the main nail. It always grows like this and gets caught on everything. Any suggestions on cause and way to deal with it?My son has his little toe's toe nail split right from the top of the nail to the bottom.?
I WORK FOR A PODIATRIST AND MY SUGGESTION IS TO FILE IT DOWN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND BUFF IT ALSO SO IT WONT HAVE ANY SHARP EDGES. NEXT GO TO SEE THE PODIATRIST HE WILL GIVE YOU SOME FREE ADVICE ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM--------%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;ONE MORE THING DONOT HAVE THE ENTIRE NAIL REMOVED . IT WILL GROW BACK INGROWN AND THAT IS ANOTHER PROBLEMMy son has his little toe's toe nail split right from the top of the nail to the bottom.?
This happened to my son about 10 years ago, except it was his finger. He closed his finger in the dishwasher and locked it. A fourth of the nail came off, but the doctor didn't remove it. He said it would eventually fall off by itself and it did. I can't even tell which finger it was. But if it's not infected or bleeding, as I was told, then just let it grow and carefully clip the nail as it get's longer.
My only suggestion would be to go to the doctors and see if they have a way of removing the whole nail.

This way a new nail will grow in it's place.
i have a thumb nail the same been like it 30 years even when i got it caught in a machine 3 years ago and lost the nail compleatly it grew back still split .keep it short
