My dog is limping from a split nail but not crying should i spent the money on a vet?

yesMy dog is limping from a split nail but not crying should i spent the money on a vet?
Yes, if your dog is limping then it is obviously causing some pain, not all dogs cry when they are hurt, and you dont want the nail splitting further down to the flesh or you may end up looking at an infected toe that may need to be removed, heaps more expensive than just getting it checked. My dog is limping from a split nail but not crying should i spent the money on a vet?
yes.. even tho your dog is not crying, it would still hurt him. if left untreated.. it may get infected.

spending a little money now is better than spending more to treat the infection.
wouldn't you go if your nail was split? go to the vet!
Yes you should, a split nail on an animal equals the same pain as when a human tears a nail down below the quick of his finger. The difference is that a human can put a bandage on it where an animal is constantly walking on his and it may become infected.
absolutely spend the money. nail cd become infected, need some slight surgical repair that you most probably should not try on your own and could need an antibiotic. In most cases it probably won't run over $50.00 for office visit and antibiotic and maybe a little cuticle repair. Good luck. don't wait. Dogs don't normally know how to tell us they're in pain. They just suffer through it. Remember they are helpless on us. take care, love. keep us posted. good thing ya'll think to at least ask some of us!
Yes. Just because your dog isn't crying doesn't mean they aren't in pain.
No really, there isn't much he/she could do. Clip the nail as short as you can, then tape the foot so that all the weight doesn't fall on the broken nail. It will grow out in a few days and he will be fine.
he might need an antibiotic on it...keep your dogs nails clipped short...they grow out too long like some poodles and it hurts their feet to walk.
No, just let it limp!

Save the money - YOUR foot doesn't hurt!

Yes, take it to the vet, get the nail fixed, pay your bill, and on the way home find a responsible owner for your dog, genius.
Animals have a tolerance level to be admired, which is why you shouldn't wait until an animal is crying before you give them medical attention. Once it gets too painful, then it may require anesthesia to treat the problem. Because animals cannot speak for themselves, you, the caretaker must take the initiative for them and get them help (sooner than later) when their body is showing evidence that something is wrong.

ABSOLUTELY, without hesitation, please, please take your dog to see the vet. If you're going to be a responsible pet owner, you should already have a relationship with a vetenarian. Pick up the phone, call them and describe what's happened and how it's affected your dog. No doubt, they'll want to see him.

Please show your compassion and act on it.
Yes. Especially if it bled at all. I am sure you love your dogand your dog loves you. Take it in so he/she will feel better and stop limping.
You should probably at least call the vet, explain it to them and ask if you should bring it in. Just as the people before me said it can get infected. I'm just suggesting what I would do if that happened to my dog. If my dog just chips a nail but barley that he isn't even reacting i would just call the vet to see if i should clip it but if it is spli i would suggest going to the vet or contacting a vet.Hope I helped you out! Good luck with your doggy!
check to make sure his limp is because of the spilt nail and not any other reasons. i.e. lighly move his joints and make sure he is not in pain at the joints.

If he is in pain from you touching the other areas, bring him to the vet to have a check.

If the damage is minor, juz monitor him for a day or so to see if things improves. The quick is damage and some dogs do not have confidence to use the paw in the early hours and when you start to play or give him treats, he may forget about the nail damage and start to walk normally again.

I would tend to the wound on my own by sanitizing the area regularly with my own homemade solution. Just keep it clean to avoid infection. I wont bring him to the vet if i have confident of handling it without getting him infected.

However, if damange is bad, best to swing to your vet immediately!
Yes, dogs don't always cry when they are hurt but rather show favoritism to an extremity, lick an area, or heavily pant. Your dog is obviously in some form of distress and needs veterinary consultation.
I think you should. The same thing happened to my pup and the whole operation costs a whopping 200 bucks!! But if you cut their nails a bit every week it will never happen again. It probably caught on something and split. Its painful and we didn't take our dog to the vet ( we thought it healed ) for a month until it happened again. The longer you wait...the more you'll have to pay because it just gets worse everyday. Don't make the mistake i did. It cost us a bit.
It could get infected, and it he is limping it hurts him...so at the least go to the vet for some pain meds.
A split nail can be very painful. It needs to be trimmed back to where it is broken, and sometimes this involves cutting into the quick. It may bleed when this is done. At our practice we'll put kwikstop on it and a bandage. Depending on how bad it is, we'll send home antibiotics and maybe a few pain pills as well. If he is limping, it would probably be best to let the vet treat it.
yes. you most definately should !
I had to take mine to the vet for the same reason. The nail will be sore for days and limp if you don't take to the vet. Then they will need to wrap it to keep it from get infected. Good Luck
yes DUH!
yes..
Yes, yes, yes - this is very painful and could become infected too.

I have had this happen to 2 dogs and both times they needed to see the vet.
If he/she is limping then it is causing the dog discomfort and possibly pain. If it were me I would take it to the vet and have the split nail removed. The dog should stop limping and be more comfortable and the nail will grow back.

Going to the vet for this shouldn't cost too much, they will just cut the nail above the split and cauterize it to stop the bleeding or they may remove the nail entirely. No surgery is needed for something like this.

When my dog was a puppy he ripped part of his toe nail off and the vet just took the rest off and wrapped his paw.
Yes you should. The nail can become infected very easily. I just seen some one I know who had to get their dog operated on to remove a broken infected nail.
IF ITS NOT BLEEDING I WOULD NOT WORRY

IF IT IS GET HIM TO THE VET
no, my dog gets them all the time, I just use some clippers and pick at it little by little, you dont have to do it all in the same day.
